For starters
I'm freelance. But not the visiting kind. I have my own kit, software, broadband and electricity and this means I don't come and drink your coffee and occupy desk space unless you want to pay my travel expenses. I've been working this way for over three years now and it suits me and my regular clients just fine. They save money on hot beverages and I save all that traffic and horn tooting nonsense I used to get when I worked from an office in Leeds.
...and another thing
I deliver my work by FTP, email and extremely rarely these days I can post a CD or DVD. I handle print, web and presentations and a little Flash work if its needed. I supply all the common formats of files and I work happily at arms length with teams of people as long as there isn't any office politics, I'd rather crack on with work than discuss why Mandy and Paul have fallen out.
...EXTRA TO THE ABOVE...
I'm Hiring. I need a little help from time to time and want to try someone out for a few things initially so that I can take a break at some point without worrying too much about leaving my clients in the lurch. I need someone already working as a freelancer with their own clients, since I'm not hiring full-time, I need a freelancer like myself. If you're based in the UK (yes I know the world is global but UK hours are what I need for my clients) and work from home on your own (mac preferred) kit, and can do some or all the things you see on this website, then please get in touch.
Stuff I've been up to lately...
My first ever video banner for New Scientist . Subscriptions rocketed as a result (okay so I made that statement up).
Nice little intro created for the Nursing Standard Nurse Awards 2008 website. Music by me.
my iStock sales are over the 10000 download mark. Satisfying to know the effort was worth it. Even some of my photos are starting to sell, if you ever need a photo of some polystyrene packing, or some fake blood, please take a look in my average photos lightbox.
Designed a new 2008 drinking vessel for Coca-cola®. Got some pictures in amongst this little 2007 rundown package I put together. Now working on some new versions to update it.
As usual, all sorts of varied visuals created daily to help sell ideas, as well as Beijing Olympics merchandise created for Coca-cola® and Powerade®, plus inflatables for all sorts of brands, startup logos for a couple of new clients, a detailed safety illustration for a Racking company and finally some press advertising, web banner and HTML email work for New Scientist Britannica Encyclopaedia and Utility week. Nice variety, keeping me sane. Need a break though, been a bit relentless this year.
